How good is Danilo really?

Have to admit that I haven't seen much of Porto recently, and obviously Santos before that. Did we really miss out on a good RB, or is he a little overrated as with most new signings are with Madrid...

He is one of the very few quality right backs available in the market and he is only 23!! We should have bought him in the summer but our incompetent board bought Douglas instead...

barcachief — 2015-04-01T09:41:13Z — #3

I think people are overreacting to the whole situation. Better options will show up

Zin — 2015-04-01T12:33:00Z — #4

Sure, but again the board gets to reap most of the blame for their failure to secure his services. I doubt very much whether players would be enticed to Barcelona during this transfer ban. Danilo isn't going to want to stay at his club for half a season while he waits for Barcelona's ban to finish. We'll only start negotiating with players I think come January.

Kishore — 2015-04-01T13:30:46Z — #5

Yes. But don't you think that we should have signed a quality player like Danilo in summer knowing that we are going to be banned from signing anyone in the future?? Now, we are forced to renew Alves and rely on Montoya.

samperisme — 2015-04-01T14:11:10Z — #6

We should have. But the board preferred, as usual, their own benefits over the club's benefit.

Icarium — 2015-04-01T14:48:14Z — #7

He is good, but it is not the end of world. We should just renew Alves and look for better options in the market, i am sure there are good alternatives. Fabinho and Darmian seem to be quite good too. Plus we can also hope having two young potential RB's will turn out to be a bad thing for real madrid.

FCBMessi — 2015-04-01T14:57:06Z — #8

We are not really forced to renew Alves, Bartra-Montoya-Adriano can play from August to January easily I think. Let's see but renew would be a huge mistake...

Zin — 2015-04-01T14:57:31Z — #9

We would renew Alves now if he didn't want more than a year extension. Based on the rumor mill, Alves is seeking at least a three year deal, and the club is only offering him one. Due to his age (31), I think it's a reasonable stance from both sides. Alves wants assurance in his last long term deal, but the club are beginning to get weary of his age, and his obvious up and down form over the past couple seasons.

FlaFCB — 2015-04-01T15:03:45Z — #10

He's good. Would had been a decent replacement for Dani. I just hope Dani is renewed. Half a season with Montoya and Douglas is far from ideal. If any rb is signed in January, too.

Danilo is a great RB, but like others have said there is still other great players that can fit in Barça. With the current board it was likely that he wasn't going to end up here. Another thing, if I remember correctly RM is paying 30 million euros for him? I understand that his young but his not worth that kind of money. If anything perhaps RM made us a favor stuck_out_tongue

Alsamurai — 2015-04-01T15:51:48Z — #13

his legendary status though grants him an assessment that is not completely dependent on his performance alone.

Icarium — 2015-04-01T16:40:05Z — #14

We don't have a choice, and he is performing well this year. It is better to pay that extra money rather than sticking with douglas and montoya.

Arvin — 2015-04-01T17:01:13Z — #15

He's good, but I'd prefer Alves to stay at least one more season. Something better than Danilo will eventually show up.

shaquour — 2015-04-01T19:26:24Z — #16

He's quality but far from a finished product. However he ticked so many right boxes we needed to properly replace Dani. One is his decisionmaking in last 3rd which Montoya lacks until today.
RM overpaid for him but anyway gotta move on now. Will see who we'll get in 2016.

Zin — 2015-04-01T21:19:51Z — #17

Well it's either the board coughing up a bunch of money for a single year extension, or giving an aging and declining Alves several more years. This board has shown itself to be anything but competent in its negotiations with extending squad members. I think they will let Alves walk.

Icarium — 2015-04-01T21:33:17Z — #18

Then that would be even bigger mistake than signing douglas, we will see what will happen. I am still positive that he will renew.

waleedxeb — 2015-04-01T21:43:22Z — #19

Danilo is good and should have been signed instead of you know who in the summer but it is not the end of the world. First Alves should not be renewed for 3 years he is arguably Barcelona's greatest Rb but it is time to say goodbye to him we'll be fine with Montoya/Bartra/Adriano till January. Second there are some quality Rbs in the market a) Fabinho b) Mario c) Darmian d) Coleman.

namednobody — 2015-04-02T06:33:34Z — #20

Since we can't buy, loan, or "make deals" to other clubs this year, I think we "might of" missed out in acquiring Danilo. Then again, not everyone that comes from a different league shines in La Liga. Renewing Alves contract is the logical choice, and I believe he still has gas in the tank.
